"Martaki" Bracelets for IFG
All proceeds from this bracelet will be donated to the International Foundation for Greece, supporting its charitable initiatives and important causes.
Celebrate the arrival of spring with a handmade "Martaki" bracelet, a cherished tradition dating back to ancient Greece and popular across the Balkans. Traditionally made with twisted red and white thread, it symbolizes purity, life, and passion, while also offering a special connection to the spring sun, as it is believed to protect the wearer from its strong rays.
Its name comes from the Greek word for March, "Martios", as it is worn from March 1st onward. Made of twisted red and white thread, the white symbolizes purity, while the red represents life and passion.
At the end of March, the "Martaki" bracelet is traditionally burned in the first spring fire. This ritual symbolizes the end of winter and the welcoming of warmth and renewal. While burning is the most common practice, some people also tie the bracelet to a fruit tree as a way to wish for a healthy harvest and prosperity.
These handmade designs feature mother-of-pearl flower motifs, Murano elements, and semi-precious stones. Each bracelet comes with a traditional red and white threaded bracelet, meant to be burned at the end of the month as part of the springtime ritual. Crafted 100% by hand.
